Bio Diesel Company, established in 2007, is a Belgian Company designing, producing, placing, and activating medium sized biodiesel installations. The company is located in Lokeren and set up by its present share holders VITO and Indinox.

In corporation with VITO and Indinox, the Bio Diesel Company has developed an innovative process for biodiesel production, using animal and vegetable waste streams. Bio Diesel Company designs and sells the medium sized biodiesel installations based on a patented high temperature and pressured methanol (HTPM) process. This technology has already significantly improved the existing technology in several different fields (read more: "process").

The most important advantage for users of this technology is that it is not susceptible to pollution by the raw material. FFAs and water cause no difficulties. Furthermore, there is no need for refining or acid esterification as a pre-treatment. Animal and vegetable waste streams are ideally suitable as raw material. Because of the continuous process, the size of the installation can be a lot smaller and more compact than virtually any other biodiesel installation. A 1,000 l/hr installation needs ± 200m² of surface area (excluding storage tanks). Equally important, installation on site can be usually be completed within only one week. Modular up scaling is very easy, which enables low-cost startup.

All of these attributes — including working with a smaller installation — translate into a very attractive operational cost allowing competitive pricing against larger producers. The lower cost and ease of locating a unit near easily accessible raw materials explains why these economical installations are in such demand.

Bio Diesel Company owns a continuous test installation on laboratory scale and a demo installation with a capacity of 100 liters/hour of biodiesel production, to carry out tests on different raw materials. So far a wide range of raw materials have been successfully converted into biodiesel. These include raffinated and unraffinated rapeseed oil, jatropha, fish oil, 100% FFAs, soy bean oil, animal waste oil, palm oil, and used frying oil.
